Adolescent Nutrition

Indonesian adolescents experience a double nutritional burden consisting of excessive and deficiency of nutrients, including micronutrient deficiencies. Basic Health Research of Indonesia Ministry of Health (RISKESDAS, 2018) shows that there are 6.8% of adolescents aged 13-18 years who are under weight, 32% of adolescents aged 15-24 years who are anemic and the prevalence of overweight and obesity is 16.0% in adolescents aged 13 -15 years and 13.5% in adolescents aged 16-18 years.

One of the factors causing the trend of increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity is the poor diet of adolescents. The behavior of choosing healthier food for oneself is still low among adolescents, including the habit of reading food labels, especially nutritional information to choose more nutritious packaged food. Data from the 2014 Individual Food Consumption Survey (SKMI) shows that the prevalence of Indonesians in consuming sugar, salt, fat, based on the recommended limits according to Permenkes No. 30/2013, is 5 out of 100 people consuming sugar >50 g/day, 53 out of 100 people consuming salt > 2,000 mg/day. and 27 out of 100 people consuming fat >67 g/day.
